It is a popular summer festival commonly known as "Gion-sama", which enshrines the God of Gion in order to be rid of future disaster. The youth in white costume pray to drive away bad luck, carrying mikoshi(a portable shrine) and running throughout the island. It will be even more crowded with stalls around the "Otabisho"(where the mikoshi is lodged during the festival)in the evening.
