Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch-1

Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch

Providing the best facilities and best food and service while protecting the environment

At this luxury hotel that welcomes guests with its elegant appearance modelled after Amsterdam Central Station in the Netherlands, four restaurants serving Japanese, European, Chinese and hot steel plate teppanyaki cuisine, as well as a hot spa can be enjoyed. Viewed from the guest room windows, the beautiful vista of the Huis Ten Bosch townscape and Ohmura Bay with its gently lapping waves is quite stunning. This is the starting point for an out of the ordinary journey.

Transmitting tradition and culture to the world through cuisine that values kindness and the Japanese spirit

The cuisine at the hotel is provided with the theme of “kindness and the Japanese spirit to the world.” In addition of course to fish and shellfish procured from the local harbor, the breakfast buffet eagerly incorporates Sasebo soul food such as madai chazuke - red sea bream and rice with broth.  Another special feature is the way that the head chef and the restaurant staff personally visit local farmers and through dialog with producers create menus using materials that are to the chefs’ satisfaction.

In order to value kindness and the Japanese spirit, and transmit tradition and culture to the world, all the tableware that the food is served on uses Mikawachi ware. With a history dating back 400 years the beauty of Mikawachi ware once won the attraction of Europeans, and it brings out the taste of the local seasons. Furthermore, through a joint project with the Hizen Porcelain  & Pottery Group that is run in collaboration by the eight porcelain and pottery-producing municipalities in Nagasaki and Saga, namely Karatsu, Imari, Takeo, Ureshino, Arita, Sasebo, Hirado and Hasami, a contribution is made to communicating the attractions of the surrounding sightseeing areas.

Achieving the reduction of environmental burdens in every situation

With regard to the specified plastic containing products consumed in guest rooms and the restaurants, efforts are underway to replace them with products using recyclable resources. Furthermore, we request guests staying consecutive nights to support eco-friendly cleaning  such as allowing the hotel to change bed linen only when requested, and pursue initiatives with consideration for environmental protection.

In addition, the visitors book has been changed from a paper format to electronic tablets, the use of which is also being enthusiastically pursued within JR  Kyushu Huis Ten Bosch Hotel Co., Ltd, and we are vigorously seeking to switch to become paperless.
