Hashima Coal Mine (commonly known as "Gunkanjima") was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2015 as a site of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution.
The latest digital technology recreates the lively atmosphere of the island, which had the world's highest population density at the time, and off-limits areas that cannot be seen during landing tours! The museum offers visitors the opportunity to experience the island through 30-meter-long projection mapping and the latest VR technology.
Children to grownups can enjoy the many and varied contents that use touch panels, projection mapping, AR, and other forms of technology. These include the "3D Walking Tour of Gunkanjima," which offers a walk through Gunkanjima built in the form of a 3D model that can be controlled using a mouse and controller, and "Gunkanjima VR," which uses VR to stimulate a virtual landing in a restricted area, filmed in 2021.
