Kamigoto National Oil Storage Base

This oil storage base was established the fifth of such permanent oil base installments and is the world's first floating oil storage base. This solid steel storage ship was born from a combination of top-class naval and civil engineering.

This massive ship measures 390 meters in length, 97 meters in width, and 27.6 meters in depth, meaning it spans three whole baseball fields. It stores enough oil to meet Japan's consumption needs for six days.

The base can be seen from Atotsugi Church. The sight of the sun setting in the distant horizon behind this massive base is absolutely majestic. Or you can see a different side of it at night, when its nights reflect against the calm waves.
