This shrine lies in Kameoka Park, created in the remains of Hirado Castle, and the castle’s main tower stands tall behind the main shrine building.
Kameoka Shrine’s festival, “Hirado Okunchi,” is held every year on October 24–27. The highlight is the Hirado Kagura dance, which takes place in the Kagura Hall in the shrine grounds on the 26th. The Kagura dance, dedicated to the deity, has 24 sequences and takes several hours. This includes a nerve-wracking dance that is performed in a turbulent manner while holding a real sword, and a dynamic performance in which the dancers use sumo wrestling techniques against each other.
The shrine is also a famous spot for flower viewing, with cherry blossoms that bloom brilliantly from the end of March to the beginning of April.
