Unzen Onsen (うんぜんおんせん)

An onsen surrounded by rich nature

  • 20389views

Unzen was Japan's first national park, and its greatest attraction is its rich, abundant nature. The majestic mountains show their seasonal appearance: azaleas in spring, greenery in summer, fall leaves in autumn, and hoarfrost in winter. Unzen Onsen, located deep in the mountains, boasts a history of more than 1,300 years and prospered as a summer resort for Westerners when Japan was opened to the rest of the world. Unzen Onsen is a hot spring resort where visitors can feel the full energy of the earth, including Unzen Jigoku, where pure white steam billows out of fumaroles.
