  • 4751views

Ikitsuki Island once flourished as a whaling town, and historically was a place where the hidden Japanese Christians continued their faith when Christianity was prohibited. It has a unique culture that has been handed down.
Cross Ikitsuki Bridge, which connects Hirado Island and Ikitsuki Island, and you’ll find the Shima no Yakata close by. This museum displays giant dioramas that recreate scenes of whaling, religious items used by the hidden Christians, and over 250 taxidermied fish. Learn about the island’s unique culture by looking at the dioramas and images in this facility.
