Higashiyamate Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings (ひがしやまてでんとうてきけんぞうぶつぐんほぞんちく)

An attractive townscape where many Western-style buildings still stand

  • 3586views

This area centered in Higashiyamate-machi in Nagasaki City is a historic location that developed as a foreign settlement after Japan opened its borders in the mid-19th century. Its buildings, which still retain vestiges of that time, are now carefully preserved. It is a charming place where Japanese history and foreign culture combine, in the Higashi Yamate No. 12 Hall with its beautiful garden, the Former British Consulate in Nagasaki, a stately building with a sense of history, and the Dutch Slope, a flagstone hill road full of exotic mood. Take a leisurely stroll to enjoy its beautiful scenery.
