Aosagaura Church is one of the striking pieces of architecture from prolific Christian architect Yosuke Tetsukawa and renowned for its distinct brick exterior and wooden interior. The building that stands here today is the third iteration; it was rebuilt in 1910 and designated as an important national cultural property in 2001. The magnificent design of the altar catches your eye the moment you walk into the aisle. Simple yet elegant wooden beams and rafters line the hall, forming into rounded vaulted ceilings overhead. Thanks to the clever placement of the stained-glass windows in front, the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph statues appear spotlighted by color-filtered sunlight at the right time of day.
