The Shimabara Peninsula is an attractive peninsula surrounded by the sea in all directions, and is acknowledged as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Shimabara Port Terminal is the peninsula’s key transport hub. You can take a ferry to Kumamoto Port in as little as 30 minutes or so, or to Miike Port in around 50 minutes. The terminal also sells souvenirs and houses a tourist information center. It is used by large numbers of tourists as the no. 1 hub for gathering information about hot springs and tourist destinations, as well as for access to the Shimabara Peninsula.
